Looking after hemp
Hemp is easy to look after. This is general guidance; the label sewn into each shirt will carry the exact instructions.
Wash, dry, press, store
Wash
Cool, gentle machine wash or by hand with a mild detergent. Wash with similar colours, especially the first few times.
Dry
Line dry in the shade. Avoid long tumble drying and high heat, which can stiffen the cloth.
Press
Iron while slightly damp, on a medium to high setting. Or leave a few creases; they are part of the character.
Store
Hang on a wide hanger or fold loosely in a dry, airy place. Let the shirt breathe.
How hemp ages
It softens
New hemp is a little crisp. Each wash and wear makes it softer and more comfortable.
Creases are natural
Hemp creases easily. That relaxed look is part of why people wear it.
First washes
Natural fibres can release a little dye at first, so wash dark and light shirts separately.
